REMOTE STARTER UNIT OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Press button #4, the siren will chirp 3 times, and the parking lights will come on solid, the LED will begin to flash quickly, signifying that the remote start mode has begun, and the engine will start momentarilly. After 3 seconds, the engine will start, and the preset accessory (HEATER or ACC) will come on. Durring this operation, your doors will lock (if you installed keyless feature) and the engine will run for up to 12 minutes, heating,or cooling the interior of your vehicle.
2. To enter the vehicle during the remote start operation, press button #2 to unlock the doors (if you have keyless entry installed). once inside, insert the key into the ignition and turn to the on position, esentially signaling the remotestarter to disengage and allow you to safely drive away. (!!!WARNING!!!) DO NOT TURN THE KEY ON ALL THE WAY FORWARD TO THE CRANKING POSITION OR YOU WILL CAUSE THE STARTER TO GRIND. There are relay diagrams to stop this from happening and are available from ALARMTEK!
3. These systems have a failsafe overide system built in, controlled by the brake pedal. If, during the remote start mode, the brake pedal is depressed, the remote start function will stop, keeping anyone from driving away with your vehicle. 4. If you want to stop the remote starter from operating during the remote start cycle, press button #4 on one of the included 4 button transmitters. You will receive 6 confirmation chirps from the siren, and the engine will stop, allowing you to get in and drive away.
VALET MODE
This system has a valet overide switch that allows you to do several
things. #1 of which will disable the alarm and remote start functions while you are servicing the vehicle. (needed if you choose to use Passive Arming!) but will still allow the Deluxe keyless entry system to operate. (it will however disable the passive locking mode.)
To enter Valet: turn the ignition key to the on position and press and hold the valet button for 5 seconds. Watch the LED installed in your dashboard. When it comes on, and stays on solid, you are in Valet Mode. Repeat these steps until the LED turns off. You have successfully reset the alarm to your original settings.
(If the transmitter is lost, stolen, or disable for any reason, the Valet switch is also an emergency overide. By following the same step as getting into valet, you can disable the system until you can replace or repair the remote transmitter.)
You will also use the Valet switch to program new remote transmitters for the unit. For this procedure, refer to the "PROGRAMING REMOTES" section of our site.
Longer Cranking Times
Some vehicles require a longer cranking duration, to activate this extended cranking time, set the pin switch #2 in the units "brain" to the off position.
Diesel Engine Mode
If your vehicle has a deisel engine, you will need to energize the glow plug. To do this, set pin switch #3 to the OFF position. This will allow your ignition wire to come on 20 seconds before trying to crank the engine, heating up the glow plug, and will then,
start the engine seemlessly.
Bypassing Factory theft deterent systems
See a List of Vehicles with Factory Security
After 1996, many car & truck manufacturers have opted to use resistor coded, or transponder type ignition, and fuel injector immobilisers, which effectively stop the vehicle from being operated without the matching ignition key. You will need to bypass these systems with either an elaborate relay setup, or call our offices for our UNIVERSAL Bypass kit. The Kit works on 95% of the exsiting industry immobilisers, and is not expensive, but is recommended for vehicles that have factory these "deterents". You will not be able to install and use our remote start system without bypassing these "Transponders". To see if your vehicle falls into this catagory, ask for your vehicle's wiring diagram at: Commando Alarms Tech Page
