REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM

INSTALLING THIS SYSTEM IS EASY!

The first step is to send a wiring diagram
request at Commando Alarms Tech Page, So that you can determine the proper wiring colors and locations for your vehicle. You will also get the type of door locking system that your vehicle has, and the correct procedure for wiring door lock relays.

Once you received the diagram, remove the panels under the dashboard/steering column area, as well as the drivers side plastic kick panel, to access the wires necessary to complete this installation. Give yourself room to work by locating the correct wire harnesses you will need to work with for interfacing this system to your car, and cut away some of the black covering, concealing the wires.

OK, now the first thing here is to "Prep" the keyless entry's main wiring harness. Using the diagram that was sent, you can now determine what wires are necessary an what isn't. Forinstance, If you are not using one or more of the extra channels on your remote (ie; trunk pop etc...) cut these wires down to abount 6 in. in length, and black tape it to the rest of the main harness. The rest of the wiring that you plan to use should be bundled together, and wrapped in Black tape. Make it long enough to leave the connection ends for installation (about 4 inches of wire for each connection wire.)

Next, looking at the vehicle wiring diagram, find the main power wire, ignition wire, starter wire (if starter kill is being installed) , and parking light wires. (if you are planning to use the vehicle horn for confirmation beeps, you will need a relay on the KL-455 horn output wire), and cut away a little bit of the vinal covering off of the wires you are attatching the keyless wires to. Now, strip the ends of the wires for power, ground, ignition sense, parking lights and starter kill (1 1/2 in.) and make your connections securely. (Make sure that the BLACK wire for ground goes to the body frame of the vehicle for best results!) once you've double checked the installation for neatness, move on to the next part of this install, the door locks.

There are 3 main door locking systems in todays vehicles. The first most common, for Japanese and some USA cars, and trucks, is the NEGATIVE type door lock system, and in most cases will not require external relays to do this installation. You can attatch the wires directly from the keyless system, to the wires in your vehicle.
The next is the POSITIVE system and you will need 2 30 amp relays to make the locking system work. The last is the 5 WIRE REVERSE system and will also require relays. See the diagrams for these at THE ONLINE RELAY CENTER to correctly interface to your vehicle.

Finally, after you've plugged the harness into the "Brain" of the system, and tested the remote to see if the locks work, and the parking lights flash, you are ready to install the LED in the dash using a 3/8 in drill bit, and the same for the VALET switch somewhere under the dash area, that you can access. (We use the drivers side plastic kick panel for this). Your installation for the basic system is now complete. To see the programing and feature setting instructions click here!

There are options with this deluxe keyless entry system, to control trunk release, starter kill, add on remote starters etc..., and all require relays and further instruction. You will find all of these add on application wiring diagrams at Commando Alarms Tech Page. You can always add these devices at a later date, so once everything is working to your satisfaction, find an area high up under the dash, and wire tie the "Brain" of the system to a stiff harness up there. (Extend the thin black wire on the "brain box" as vertically as possible for the optimal range for the remotes, and tape it in place, DO NOT CUT, OR STRIP THIS WIRE!) At this point, check all of your work over carefully for exposed wires etc.. and black tape it up. Wire tie the keyless wiring harness to the existing vehicle harnesses, for neatness, and put the panels back together. CONGATULATIONS! You did it yourself!
